Darling,

Flash! VH-1 departs from sunny Saipan in the merry Marianas Thursday, May 23. Immediate destination, Kaneohe, Hawaii, by way of Wake and Johnston Islands. What happens to VH-1 after reaching Kaneohe, nobody knows; but there is a good chance of our being sent on to San Diego for de-commissioning. There’s also some talk of being sent to Norfolk, which wouldn’t be so perfect but would help, as we’d have to go through San Diego. I’ll try to call you from Kaneohe when we find out what’s what.

I haven’t heard from you in two weeks, except indirectly through your sister Gertie. You want to keep an eye on that Gertie, Beebe, because she’s a female wolf if I ever saw one. And I’m so weak. But seriously, when I go two weeks without one of your sweet letters, my morale is crushed. You shouldn’t do it to me.

Incidentally, just because I’m probably gone from Saipan when you get this, don’t stop writing, puhlease. I’ll intercept them in Hawaii — we may be there for a week or so. And then again, we may only be there for a couple of days and then — on to Coronado! That’s almost too good to think about, but I’ve certainly been doing a lot of thinking about it. I’m not counting on it too much, as I don’t want to be disappointed if it falls through. But if wanting something badly enough counts for anything, then I’m practically there.

I had the best dream about you last night I’ve ever had.
